thoughts of september

dress: vintage, purse: vintage, shoes: vintage from etsy

i went to a vintage warehouse sale this weekend and scored lots of goodies! they are mostly things for fall, wool pencil skirts, a long sleeved shirtwaist dress, cardigans. it's getting me excited for cooler weather. the back of the dress is what makes it so special: big gold buttons and a bow!

also getting me in the mood for stomping on crispy autumn leaves is the A.P.C. fall collection:

these are my favorites, check out more here
oh how i dream for a perfect apc trench!

inspiration: redheads

karen elson, from jakandjil

hannah of hannah+landon has the most covetable red hair (when she isn't dying it all kinds of other pretty colors of course)

this photo of judith bedard on the sartorialist has been stuck in my mind as favorite picture of flaming red hair, and it inspired this whole post. her pale skin on the white top, those crazy patent boots, the weird bmx bike, she is so, as tyra would say, fierce. she doesn't even look human she's so gorgeous. lastly, here are some awesome polaroids of her from coacd:

should be at a carnival

hat: vintage, blouse: the gap, belt: vintage, skirt: vintage, purse: vintage

woke up feeling like a country girl this morning. i've had this cute little blouse for years but never wore it, what is wrong with me!? it's a bit sheer and i haven't had a nice camisole to put under it. add that to my long wish list. i just decided to wing it anyways, and it's not as see-through as i remembered. can you believe that it's from the gap, of all places?

i finally decided to put the hat up in the shop. i'm always pining for that 'perfect' hat, but i feel silly with one on. i'm just not really a hat girl! this hat is so simple and sweet, it deserves a lovely head to perch on more frequently than my fickle one!

thanks for your lovely comments on my last post. i loved reading about everyone's jobs, the good ones and the temporary, boring ones! and i'm glad to know i'm not alone here. my own search continues..

heart sweater: h+m, blouse: thrifted h+m, skirt: vintage, clutch: vintage, shoes: vintage

it rained a bit today and really cooled down, a very welcome change.
well, i'm off to search for some sort of employment now that my internship has wrapped. ho hum, how i dread to toil behind an espresso machine or cash register. but ya gotta do what ya gotta do, as someone says. what sorts of jobs do you guys have/want?

did ya miss me?

i just got back from a semi-unexpected visit to new york.  i checked out music at siren fest on coney island, seeing the ravonettes (for free) was rad. we had the best spot, watching the stage from behind a moon bounce. then i ate a corn dog, watched some ponies, and hung out on the beach.
top: h+m, shades, skirt, belt, bag, shoes: vintage

other activities included seeing a midnight showing of Flesh Gordon, a totally bizarre cult 'porno' borrowing from Flash Gordon, getting dumplings and a sesame sandwich at Vanessa's Dumplings, and playing with Lebowski the dog.

new york is always a good time.

model turned vintage vixen

karen elson, model and wife of jack white (of the white stripes, duh) has opened a vintage store in nashville, TN. how cool! this is only adding fuel to my dreams of road tripping through middle america. here are some pictures:

read more about it here at black book. this move solidifies karen's coolness since a) being a red haired model b) being in the citizens band c) carrying jack white's baby(s) d)settling down in nashville as opposed to ny or la. the shop's website is a little bare bones, but check it out yourself. by the way it's called Venus and Mars.

breakfast

belgian waffles & OJ! at teri's in the italian market. delicious and a good deal too. blows south street diner out of the water.

lacoste polo- vintage, white overalls- thrifted, tote from craft fair

this striped polo was my fave back in like 2004, everyone was into lacoste and i got it in new york, paid way too much at some vintage store and thought i was hot shit. i came across it today, it's a bit on the short side but full of nostalgia. i went through my facebook photos and its in there about 15 times. it's one of the last of clothing i still have from high school and i think i'm finally ready to move on.

do you guys still wear stuff from high school? (doesn't count if you're still in school)

cup cakes and flea market finds

my first batch didn't rise very much, i think i forgot to add the baking soda, oops!

strawberry shortcake

peanut butter & jelly (jelly in the center) and vanilla chocolate chip
i also made carrot cake cup cakes, but forgot to photograph! i got the recipes from Chandra Moskowitz's vegan cup cakes take over the world. we got mad compliments on them.

i picked up a couple things, several with a nautical theme:

sailor sweater with darling little anchor buttons

boatneck anchor sweater and a navy pleated school girl skirt.

sequin sweater, it was from a booth from Topstitch, a nice little vintage store in old city. unfortunately they recently had to downsize (boo this economy).
i feel a bit silly, as i won't be wearing these sweaters for a few months, but they were all good deals and i can never have enough sailor stuff!

and lastly, these little bird pins- 2 for $1, couldn't resist!
