i am back from the florida sun & showers. 

lots of awkward relatives but an enjoyable time. i haven't been to a bar mitzvah since i myself was 13, and well, they are more fun for that age range. but, there was an open bar, hah!

tomorrow is my first day of school, and it's my last year. i'm excited, more excited that i have been at the start of other years. although, this time last year i was in tokyo, and that was pretty exciting.

anyways, i have to get up at 9am, which is something i have not been doing all summer. so goodnight, i wish you all a good monday!

i found this little overgrown garden on the way to the record store. there is not enough greenery in philly so i get excited when i find a patch. i bought three records: the carpenters, diana ross, and lisa lisa & cult jam. then came home and listened to them while playing board games.

the black jazz shoes are the only new thing i've bought in a while. i try to resist, but h+m always has some little basic thing that i can't help purchasing. they also sell them in light pink, so tempting...

oh, and here is a little lacy blouse i found in DC:

 

i am so in love! it's delicate and in need of some TLC though. the buttons were all melted to the fabric as though someone had ironed it. i managed to carefully peel them off without inflicting much  damage. eventually this might go in the shop but it just looks so pretty hung up on the wall!

rain rain go away...

it was so rainy i had to bust out my slicker. hopefully it will mean a cool down in this august heat. wish my basement would stop flooding though..

i've been in dc for the weekend at my parents; went to the dentist, saw some friends, and even squeezed in a tiny bit of shopping- sweet finds posted soon. i'm going back to philly (in a couple minutes actually) for the rest of the week and then i'm off to Florida for the weekend for a distant cousin's bar mitzvah (hah), and the following monday classes start at 9 AM sharp! eesh.

goodbye summer! i think i'll do a back to school post, as soon as i stop grieving. anyway, here's an assortment of goodies from my Things I Should Blog About department:

the magazine i wish i was old enough to have read as a kid. i used to get jane but it was never as fun or edgy. the mag biz must be a tough one.

at the waterfront

yesterday I went on a little bit of tourist jaunt with some friends and a german. we went around old city and down to penn's landing.  i pretty much hate touristy stuff but it's nice to check out some of the places people talk about. you can see new jersey from here! the camden aquarium is right across, i so want to ride the ferry and look at sea creatures some time.

this was followed by dinner at an all-you-can-eat asian buffet. it was delicious, but i never ever want to do that again. i ate all of the following plus a bowl of soft serve. followed shortly by a food coma.

i came across this italian label on some other blogs and i was entranced at once! Vivetta is spunky and feminine and full of superb details. Here are some of my favorites from fall!

burger babies and some new finds

i've had some lovely finds in the past couple weeks but i've been slow to upload them. i'm finally getting around to it so here are a couple:

a dainty pink blouse that's missing some buttons, have to look for little pearly ones

vintage sunnies, i really like these but the screw fell out of one side and now they are missing an arm :(

pink silk 50s dress that needs some TLC. i didn't notice until i got home that one of the seams is completely undone, but it's easy enough to fix with a sewing machine. 

and lastly, i had a late night craving for white castle, but a quick look on the google informed us that there are no white castles in the state of pennsylvania. so we biked to the 24 hour grocery and picked up some ingredients and threw together the cutest little sliders:

a three day heat wave is starting to get to me, as i laze away the days watching movies indoors, reading tons of blogs, eating fro-yo, and taking afternoon naps.  i've been on a coen brothers kick lately, watched hudsucker proxy, the man who wasn't there, and blood simple. 

but all this lazy free time has also let me discover some fantastic blogs which have quickly become some of my favorites:

ps. the welcome back from paris party went smashingly. we danced all night to 90s freestyle and i completely forgot to drink the champagne i bought, it's still hiding in the fridge crisper, waiting for its moment. unfortunatly the cookies were eaten before cameras could capture them, but they look essentially like this:

another day dress i got from the vintage warehouse sale. it's so perfect for autumn! but i can't help trying it out early. it has the cutest peter pan collar and front pin tucking. the teeniest waist though- i almost thought it wouldn't fit. luckily i just barely managed to wiggle into it, and the belt is adjustable. 

tonight we are throwing a welcome back from paris party for my roommate. he's making mexican wedding cookies and i'm stepping out to buy some drinks. maybe champy? i'm feeling like something cold and bubbly. happy friday everyone!
