chicken noodle soup

sweater, skirt, heels: vintage

this weekend i made it to two flea markets that weren't rained out, and happily made just one little purchase of a wind up bear which i will share at a later date (because it looks crappy on photobooth + i'm lazy). i was happy to wear a real sweater out, i hope this perfect fall weather lasts a bit longer..

aside from that, i have been a mega lazy bones, laying around in bed since coming down with a cold on sunday. oh immune system, pull yourself together! i've been eating nothing but chicken noodle soup, tea, and orange juice. anybody have a secret cold remedy? i hear those nasal sprays are good but the thought of it makes me cringe.

nothing fancy, just from a can.

wearing the pants

annie hall
embracing menswear is something i've admired, but barely have the ~cojones~ to pull off. it has something to do with my figure being more in the hourglass department than the twig, that i just feel more comfortable in girly silhouettes, but maybe it's all in my head.

blouse, belt, wool pants, shoes: all vintage

i've been wearing narrow leg pants & jeans for so long now that it feels strange to wear a looser fit. anyways, i'm trying something new! i think i might get another pair of trousers and try to tailor them a bit, make them slimmer, but i'll have to bug friends with a sewing machine/skillz. and i really want to do that rolly thing at the bottom with them.

sour face

& a little more inspiration..

bundle up

it's still really nice out, but i can't stop thinking about a new winter coat. ideally i'd like to find one at a thrift store for $6, but the nicer coats i've seen have all been huge. so i've been doing some internet window shopping, much of which is out of my budget... but i'm trying to just figure out what kind of coats i'm looking for, and i'm sort of all over the place. do you guys already have your winter 09 coat?

sequin jacket: vintage, black dress: muji, tights: cheap shop in tokyo, clutch: vintage, shoes: h+m

one of my best pals is going back to germany tomorrow, so we had some festivities last night. he's one of those people who brings everyone together, and we're all sad for him to go.

in other news, i've had the man who fell to earth from netflix for over a week now and still haven't had time to watch it. sorry bowie! i'm hoping to get to it tonight.

oh, and my newest discovery- a roller rink in my neighborhood! it's only $2 on thursdays. i am so there. gotta whip out some thigh highs and hot shorts= future blog post.

another monday

i had a nice weekend, despite rain and flea market disappointments. on friday it rained and i stayed in and made a yummy dinner:

pesto bow tie pasta, buttered brussel sprouts, stir fried veggies and toast with olive oil and vinegar. i hated brussel sprouts as a kid but alex convinced me to give them another chance, much to my surprise they were yummy!

on saturday i biked to a flea market only to find a RAINED OUT sign, despite the fact that there was no rain all day. i was annoyed because i had gotten all out of breath biking up a big hill for nothing, so i biked back across town to a thrift store to try to make up for it, but didn't end up getting anything. at least i got my exercise on.

now it's back to the bump and grind. i have my first paper of the year due tomorrow (this one's always a struggle!), but there's lots of cool projects coming up too.

sweater: mens vintage from tokyo, dress: vintage, bag: vintage coach from flea market, shoes: vintage from etsy

oh and i've been meaning to mention, a friend of mine (rachel, above) is doing a really cool blog- she's driving cross country, from philly to LA in 9 days, and hitting as many thrift stores as she can and reviewing them. i'm really jealous and wanted to go with her, she's found some really neat stuff! check it out here!

secretary chic

i've been a bit of a bum the last couple of days, as weather.com keeps telling me it's going to rain so i get all prepared and then nothing happens. it felt nice to get all dolled up and lady-like this afternoon. i am so in love with this top, i found it in a little shop in DC, hiding between generic button ups and fleece jackets. i think it's from the 40s.

blouse, skirt, purse, shoes: all vintage

today i went for drinks and then read the iliad for an absurd amont of time, and kept nodding off. also i fell asleep in the computer lab yesterday between classes, with my head on the desk. i need more sleeps! so i am off to dreamland. oh but it's thursday and the weekend's almost here!

little wish list inspired by bloggers

trench:

from here (the trench is from zara!)
i have seriously been on the hunt for a perfect trench for 2 years. i have 2 less than perfect ones which i should probably donate, as i feel guilty for wanting something i already have two of. well, the hunt continues.

tailored trousers:

cup cake stand:

from kberry

tea tins:

clip on bow ties:

I actually have a few of these already..

and lastly but mostly, saddle shoes:

i've been debating about ordering some online, from payless or other websites i've heard about, but are escaping me at the moment. do you have saddle shoes, and if so, from where?!

september second

i am recycling this outfit. i wore it to a clueless themed dance party a few weekends ago, now i am wearing it to school. i've been generally trying to avoid 80s and 90s, as it's so terribly trendy, but then i pick up a blazer like this, and i can't even help it. i guess inspiration comes from many places.

blazer: vintage, dress and jazz shoes: h+m

this week has been going great. i like my classes, i bought new jeans, the weather is f***ing perfect, and i ate tacos last night. oh september, you might just be my favorite month.
