my new (found) sofa!

sorry for the blurs, it was getting dark and my photographer seems to have shaky hands.

i've never been so excited to carry a heavy object 6 blocks. alls it needs is some upholstery on the bottom cushion and it will be good to go. i've gotta throw a sheet on it in the mean time to cover up the unsightly duct tape.

hurrah for free furniture!

today was a good day

  • it was super warm and sunny today
  • in one of my classes we watched ohayo, one of my fave japanese films (it's criterion collection so you know it's a gem)
  • got a good grade in a another class
  • and most importantly: found a cute sofa on the street and carried it home (with the help of alex of course). so psyched, i've been living couch-less for 10 months you guys, this is a serious upgrade! photos asap.

grey thursday

by tim walker

it's the worst sort of rain today, the light, cold, nonstop kind that is all too common in philly (weather.com predicts it won't stop until tuesday, WTF!).  luckily i got out of class early, so now i can stay inside and cuddle with my alligator/work on upcoming projects for the rest of the day.

the lovely ladies over at Wicked Plum Vintage featured me as a vintage style icon and did a sweet little interview, check it out here. They've got a cute blog and an amazing online shop full of lots of covetable vintage.

it's too dark in here for outfit pics so i'm going to keep it short and sweet today. oh, one last thing, have you guys checked out regretsy? it's a website poking fun at horrible crafts listed on etsy and it's seriously LOL inducing.

going raven

i really don't have enough opportunities to wear this coat out. i bought it a year ago at the philly punk rock flea market. it's too warm for nice days and too thin for cool days, but for the few indian summer days it's spot on. i've been meaning to replace the buttons with something a little more delicate, but i am slow on tasks like that.
last night i stayed up late and watched Killer Klowns from Outer Space (currently free on demand). this movie is the stuff of 8 year old's nightmares, but seeing it now it's a total hilarious mess. with a killer intro song and the worst acting imaginable.

i skipped class today to go thrifting and have been feeling guilty about it ever since. i figure it's okay because tomorrow i have to be at school at 9 am on a SATURDAY, uhg.
next weekend asobi seksu and broadcast are playing, on saturday and sunday respectively. i really should only go to one, but i can't decide which! help me!

happy weekend you guys!

halloween retrospective

from flickr

growing up, halloween was my absolute favorite holiday, rivaled only by my birthday and chanukah. free candy, dressing up, carving pumpkins, crisp fall air, what's not to love? since i turned 14 and my neighbors stopped approving of me trick or treating(read: condescending comments when i tried to take their candy), the holiday has fallen in my favor, but i'll never skip out on an  opportunity to get dressed up. we still have a month to go and my halloween ideas are still in the brainstorming arena. so i thought i might do a retrospective of my costumes over the years.

only a few pictures surfaced, all from most recent years (thnx facebook); i know i have more funny pictures at home somewhere.

'08: native american, last year i was in tokyo and went to the best halloween party ever

'07: 'party', got a little abstract here, and my friend's bjork totally kicked ass. she made that thing by hand! that year i locked my bike up outside a bar and lost the key, had to walk home..

'06: barbie (with my freshman suitmate)

'05: pirates, that year we drove around looking for a party we never found..

'04: harajuku girls, i was super into japanese street fashion, ha kinda dorky, we wore this to school

earlier: in 5th grade i didn't know what to be, so i just used spray on green hair dye and sprayed the back of my head, kinda weird.. in 4th grade i was a cat and wore all black with a fancy tail my mom made and had face painted whiskers and nose, wore it to school and got embarrassed cause no one else dressed up.
before that i was a witch and a princess, and before that i was peter pan for 5 or 6 years, my mom made the costume out of felt and i even had little green booties and a cap.
i have always loved dressing up.

so, what are you guys going to be this year?
