no more turkey plz!

after a lovely holiday and rather harrowing experience on the chinatown bus (a cheap alternative to greyhound/trains, run by people who seem to thrive on chaos) i am back in philly. yesterday was incredibly mild so my ankles got some air. can't believe it's almost december, 2009 you're going too fast!

cardi: AA, stripe top: HM, red belt: vintage, grey trousers: vintage, oxfords: vintage.
i need a bangs trim pronto.

in dc i managed to hit a couple thrift stores, eat a plethora of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauces and mexican food, see the fantastic mr. fox- which was great, wes anderson steals my heart every darn time, and got to sleep in every day. oh and all that quality family time jazz. hope you guys all had pleasant vacays too!

OJ in the morning

peacoat: vintage from ebay, dress: kennedy holmes, sweater: thrifted in tokyo, tights: target, boots: vintage

i'm all packed up and heading home for thanksgiving. i'm so looking forward to sleeping in... and the chocolate pear crumble my mother has promised. i'll be making cornbread for our thxgvg (as i like to spell it) dinner. cannot wait for all the yummy things i'll be eating!! and might be doing some thrifting while avoiding black friday- i can't believe i used to like shopping at malls, they just bum me out now.

this dress is from the lovely kennedy holmes, and i am totally head over heels! i've been wanting more greys in my wardrobe and it fits the ticket, plus it's all flowy and girly.
i wore it for a quick grocery shop and on the way home got hit by a wave of thirst:

gotta get my daily dose of vitamin c!

family ties

i've been meaning to do an outfit photo all week but it's been so crazy and i keep missing daylight. the sun goes down at 4:30 ftw?? anyway so here are some old photos i never got around to blogging- my dad runs a reused building material and home furnishings store outside of DC, and blah blah they got a new antique section and suddenly i became way more interested. these are a couple snaps i took when i visited this summer:

i loved all the little vintage tins

they didn't have quite all the letters i needed...
the guy who runs the antique area up noticed i was poking around all the old tins and he let me take one home! this is what i picked:

a little home for my nail polishes and extra buttons

pizza pie

jacket: thrifted in tokyo, swan pin: shop in tokyo, sweater: vintage, jeans: jbrand, purse: vintage, oxfords: vintage (need to go to a cobbler, they are falling apart already, sad face )

uh oh, it's getting nippy out there and i'm starting to dress real boring!  to try to make up for it i stood in front of this funny mural of a pizza man.

i've been having a good weekend but it's going by too fast. my mom came up to philly for a craft show, it was pretty mediocre but i got a good breakfast out of it. then i stayed out too late last night, oops.
okay i am procrastinating by writing this and also starting to compile my holiday wish list.. should really get back to work but i really want this:

it is a shiitake mushroom log and it grows fresh mushrooms in your home for up to four years with minimal care! am i a total nerd to think that's amazing!? can you even imagine the omelets you could make with that??

weekender

took a short trip to new york this weekend to attend my pal charlie's 21st birthday party. lots of fun, too many drinks, now i'm feeling a bit under the weather.
i took some pictures of the yummy food i ate:
amazing sushi from sushi UO (i think that's it), charlie knows the chef
and pastrami sammich from a diner (i wanted katz's but it's a madhouse on the weekend)
and charlie got a bagel & lox

i have so much work due this week, plus the philly subway & transit workers are on strike which makes it a pain to get to school- it is nearly impossible to get up and bike across town at 8:30am. what a headache!

i am counting down the days till thanksgiving break.. 18 left to go!
sequin beret, top, oxfords, purse: vintage, jeans: j. brand

happy (day after) halloween!

last night i watched the phillies game, went by two parties, ate some candy and had a good time. unfortunately the whole photo taking thing got sort of forgotten along the way. i was a bear, this is an old picture of the bear suit i wore:

i like to squeeze in as many costumes as i can, so here's a peek at my mischief night (day before halloween) costume.

i was audrey hepburn meets scarlett johansson in lost in translation meets jem and the holograms... okay, i just really wanted to wear a pink wig.

alex as Tin Tin

i carved a pumpkin!  mine is the skeleton on the right, in the shadow of my friend's impressive carving skills on the left.
oh, and i just got back from checking out the day-after-halloween-candy-aisle-sale at the supermarket- very disappointing! what was left was 2 for $5 (bad deal), and no candy corn to be seen :( that's probably for the better in the long run though.
hope you guys had fun nights!
