happy halloween!

halloween
so a sexy cat, varejao (basketball player), nancy drew, and a fire fly walk into a party...
all those busy mischief night plans crumbled once we had found a decked out party with candy and drinks and a smoke machine. there were paper bats and jars with what looked like body parts, and they even turned the bathroom into a scene from psycho- it was really impressive decor.

halloween
the suspects through my pipe cleaner magnifying glass... (check out that lit up fire fly bum on abby!)

nancy drew & urkel
you can sort of see my attempt at nancy drew hair- it turned out to be really difficult to turn my way too long hair into this.

nancy
this was basically my outfit, taken in the afternoon with a weird bow tie thing, different shoes and before i attacked my hair. but ya get the ~vibe~

what a busy week it's been! i don't know where all the time has gone. thank goodness i get the weekend to relax.. not! it's halloween weekend and it seems like there's going to be too much going on for any r&r.

bw
there's a few costume parties to attend, a dinner with friends tonight, and i kind of want to squeeze in another pumpkin carving, since the pumpkins from last week have sadly not made it to halloween (wish i had a picture before they went into the trash, one had a mold hairdo). alex still needs to find glasses for his Urkel costume (lols). oh and i also have to stuff my face with candy! favorites include: reeses, swedish fish, twix, kit kats, tootsie pops, oh i could go on and on! i really miss trick or treating, wish i had a toddler friend to take around/steal candy from.

WHAT ARE YOU BEING FOR HALLOWEEN?
(mine is still a secret till Saturday.. ok yes i am being a nerd about this)

all dressed up

blue bow
i was a little apprehensive about the anniversary dinner (james is really expensive!) but it was so worth it. it was too dark for photos, and anyways that's pretty tacky, but every course was beautiful and delicious. we had some kind of mushroom soup with carrot gnocchi cousins, followed by 'venus's jewel case', and then i had lobster for my main dish. fancy stuff!

blue bow

it was fun to get a little dressy so i'm continuing the vibe. oh, and lexie asked about photos of alex- we have so few together cause i'm always making him play photographer! but here's a silly one of him with a friend (he's gonna be pissed when he see's i've posted this):

today is a rather big day for me and alex... our 3 year anniversary, can ya believe it?! so i got a little dolled up (hey, i'm wearing heels, and i never wear heels!) and we are going to enjoy a semi fancy meal (at james). apparently you're supposed to gift each other leather on this most special occasion but i'm pretty sure that's whack attack. i'm not really the hallmark type.

red
anyway, enough about me. tell me about your special moments and sappy love stories! any really great three year anniversary shenanigans?

bundling up, + picking pumpkins + carving them + eating apples + getting blown about in the wind = my weekend. my goal this week is to bake pumpkin seeds and enjoy the weather!

side of mustard

side of mustard
looks like i'm pretending i'm going to school again. do you guys know what you want to be for halloween yet? i'm expecting lots of snookies and chilean miners this year. i have something up my sleeve for a costume but i want to make it a surprise! haha i am lame. halloween was my favorite holiday as a kid, and though it's lost some awesomeness since i don't trick or treat anymore (pillowcases full of candy, how i miss you...), i still totally have butterflies for carving pumpkins, roasting seeds, making pie, and of course, the dressing up bit.

side of mustard
alex still doesn't know what he wants to go as, any ideas for good boy costumes? last year he was tintin which was pretty great.

vintage stripe top, thrifted levis short shorts, target tights, vintage ankle boots

trying out the shorts over tights thing, i'm a little apprehensive but it seems to be working alright. i left all but this pair of shorts at my dc place for storage, which did not really free up much room for all the sweaters i brought back to philly. oh well, more for the shop.
tuesday

i've been without a record player since august when the motor in the old one totally died. i was so excited this weekend to find a receiver and hook up a new record player we've had for a while but never used. so here's a peek at the music corner of our house! all ready for smooth listening and dance parties..

i spent the past weekend in dc to celebrate a friend's birthday and then bring back to philly two huge bags of winter clothes- not that i have room in my overcrowded closet for thick sweaters and pea coats. the weather has been just perfect, cool and somewhat brisk, but not chilly. supposed to rain later this week which will probably make it freezing though. and i'll be very prepared!

back to school (psych!)

IMG_0218
tights weather is here to stay! i think my ~winter palate~ is going to be polarized between muted neutrals like this and multicolor brights (just acquired some amazing bright colored pea coats, i'll show em off soon!).
also i don't know how to take pretty photos in south philly. i must live on the ugliest little street. but shooting photos flat against walls is getting rather boring. so here you are, a better look at my dirty ramshackle street.

blazin

blaze
i think that nothing compliments a girly dress like the masculine touch, in the form of kick ass boots or my manly blazer here. i love little boys blazers! leaving a thrift store without checking the kids section is just plain silly, when all the perfectly fitting blazers are hiding among the boys suits.
but arg the sun is going down sooner and sooner and making my after work photos all blurry! and i'm going to have to try to make my house pretty enough for indoor shoots for when it gets really cold out..

at the market

purple pants
making it my new ritual to hit a farmers market on the weekend! stocked up on mad fresh veggies and some home made bread. can't wait to cook up a storm this week. speaking of which, my friend abigail and i have just started a food blog side project, good to think and eat, you guys should check it out if you got a minute. gonna be documenting yummy recipes we cook up!

purple pants

the farmers market is open sundays 10-2 on lombard and 2nd st and has so many local organic farms selling their fruits, veggies, spices, and homemade cheeses. and it's really not pricey if ya shop smart.
