my aunt and uncle have a cute little weekend house in upstate new york in the middle of nowhere. the neighbors have horses, chickens, and a pig. there are woods to stomp through (although it was a little nerve wracking since it may or may not be hunting season), birds to watch, and a big pretty river (the delaware).

the weekend away from the concrete of philly was lovely. spent time hiking in the woods, staying cozy reading, lots of eating, and playing soccer in the snow with Freddy the poodle.

oh and my new satchel came! kinda psyched about this one..

Thanksgiving

i'm off to spend thanksgiving weekend in upstate new york with family. should be full of nature and good foods and pie and chilly rainy weather. i'm pretty psyched! will also be a break from the glow of the computer screen, which to be honest is something i've been looking forward to.

and this is my new coach-inspired bag. $4 at philly aids. i was going to put it in the shop but changed my mind, oops! it's like the perfect size for everything i need to carry, and doesn't let me add any extras to weigh me down. i've always been a small purse girl rather than big purse.

inspiration: walkabout

the other night i watched this fantastic film, Walkabout, from '71. it takes place in the australian outback where a young english girl and her brother are left stranded. The film is a beautiful critique of the imperialist civilization and how it is ruining the natural order as well as the aborigine's way of life. but i found myself so distracted by the clothes!


though she never changes clothes throughout the film, i couldn't help admiring jenny agutter's school girl outfit! she was determined to remain prim even in the miserable desert, except for one daringly sexy (very) naked swimming scene.

seeing spots

aw yeah, first shots with the new camera! it's a canon rebel XT, which is a few years old but wayy less expensive than the new ones. it was a tough call between nikon and canon, but in the end it really came down to the price. thankfully there were no wild ebay surprises. and it's so fun to play with! i've put up a couple shots i was messing around with on my tumblr.


went on some wild thrifting this weekend, when i discovered this jacket. it's a little bit of a different style than i usually do, but i've always been attracted to leopard spots. they are such a cool pattern because they have been styled by jackie o, glam rockers with tight leopard print bells, and modern club wear. is any other pattern more widely popular??

velvet days

oh shoot, you can tell from the greenery behind me that these photos are a few weeks old.. somehow they got lost on the old hard drive til now.


so here's my adventures petting kitties and trying to pretend philly isn't all concrete jungle. i'm pretending because this park (it's the closest one to my house) is the worst. sure, it doesn't look so bad from here, it's got a few trees and some grass- but that's it. not even shrubbery or attempts at landscaping. there is a jungle gym and some trash cans. and in the hotter months there were insufferably hoards of mosquitoes.
i guess it's a good park to walk your dog in. i am just a park snob apparently.

waiting in anticipation for the mailman to come by.. spent the weekend looking at art, eating free jewish dinners, stomping leaves, winter proofing, and grocery shopping. i'm psyched for all the winter squash and roots the next few months will include!

yay it's the weekend! almost. a horrid rainy yesterday has left me feeling excitement for clear skies of today. also exciting is that i took the plunge... i ordered a new camera. a fancy dslr! crossing my fingers that it works properly, cause you never really know with ebay. hopefully i'll be showing off way better photos by next week!

goodbye grey monday

oh it's definitely starting to feel like winter is right around the corner! i need a new winter hat for my poor freezing ears when i ride my bike to work. i lost 3 hats last winter, which is a record for me. i'm vowing not to lose one this season!


also, today is an important day for americans because it's election day, and the rights are supposed to take over the lefts in the house and maybe senate (or something..). so i'm using my lunch break to vote, which is kind of a pain because i have to go across town since i never registered in my new neighborhood since i finished school. but it's important, and i'm telling you all mostly so i can't go back on it!
