so i've been a little slow at getting my little autumnal photoshoot up, i wanted to give it some sort of dramatic presentation.. anyway, THIS is what i came up with, so click over there to see more. the shoot was in new jersey and all the photo credits go to alex schulte.

hanging with some geese
i'm still stuffed from thanksgiving.
factoid: apparently there was no turkey at the original thanksgiving back in the day- the native americans brought venison and corn and the pilgrims brought beer and muskets (hey there's a red flag, indians..). there was lots of beer at my thanksgiving, but luckily very few muskets. also very few indians, but whatcha gonna do.

turkey time 2011
welp thanksgiving is almost upon us, i'll be sneaking off to dc to bake pies with my mom and eat my weight in turkey/everything. some r&r might do me some good, my current sleep cycle is beyond whacked.
but before i go, here's some thoughts on fashion that i liked:
“Fashion is one of the very few forms of expression in which women have more freedom than men. And I don’t think it’s an accident that it’s typically seen as shallow, trivial, and vain. It is the height of irony that women are valued for our looks, encouraged to make ourselves beautiful and ornamental… and are then derided as shallow and vain for doing so. And it’s a subtle but definite form of sexism to take one of the few forms of expression where women have more freedom, and treat it as a form of expression that’s inherently superficial and trivial. Like it or not, fashion and style are primarily a womens’ art form. And I think it gets treated as trivial because women get treated as trivial.”

ABCs
oh gosh i dunno guys. what's up lately?
i went and saw melencholia, and it was pretty cool and intense but totally gave me a migraine from all the handheld camera work which has never happened to me in a movie before.
i've spent some time doing annoying but productive things lately- sat down and mended a bunch of dresses and sewed coat buttons back on. then i assembled a bookshelf i've had sitting in its box for three months. maybe i'll get around to doing some laundry next. lol.
boooring. but productive at least.

lol cats

i stumbled upon something of a feline fiesta a few blocks away from my apartment at what can only be the house of a cat lady/person. there were like 6 or 7 cats lounging on the steps, in the windows, and hanging on the sidewalk. it was hard not to sneak off with one or two.
also it's november and these will be the last photos where i'm not wearing tights. but it's actually been surprisingly warm the last few days. still crossing my fingers that it stays this way..

f/w 11
i'm in the midst of putting together something of a little heart city lookbook for fall. i went out to the wild and woolly woods of new jersey to capture some velvet frocks in a natural setting. i seem to be running out of time before it turns to undeniable winter, so here's a little preview..

cinema inspiration: la femme nikita (1990)
from wild punk to seductive assassin, nikita's wardrobe is nothing short of inspiring: big boots, a hounds-tooth leather jacket, body-con mini dresses, cutesy lingerie, and covetable sunglasses are some of her staples.

soap gun/ leather jacket / floral tee/ black mini dress / polka dot mini dress/ lace bodysuit
beyond the sartorial choices, it's a great film. you may recognize leon from the professional, which was a sort of spin off. if you haven't already seen it, i hope i didn't spoil anything for you with these screen grabs- it's on netflix instant and you should go watch it!

minnie mouse

i did not manage to get any decent photos of my Halloween escapades, but i had a thoroughly spooky weekend filled with dressing up, dancing, slushy snow, too much candy, a frat party and brunch at honeys.
i managed to wear a new costume every night- a sailor and a beatnik and minnie mouse. wish i had some pictures to show off where i don't look ahem, sloppy, but hey, maybe next year. instead you get these photos from a wonderfully warm november day, and my outfit is still totally drawing inspiration from minnie mouse.
