it's been damp and dreary lately and this hangover isn't making things any better.

i've been having lots of weird dreams. i dreamed i was in tokyo but i'd only brought one dress with and it was floor length red velvet and totally inappropriate. except upon waking i saw that it would be totally appropriate, if it had been real.

i want to go someplace far away and unfamiliar.

i spent the weekend in new york visiting friends and freezing my butt off. bought lots of nice pens and the above striped dress and too many cab rides. enjoyed a foggy dance party with the likes of emily, liz, anna, and hannah. peeped the golden globes (charlize theron and miranda july were robbed imo), and had arguments about what to call circle scarves (vs snood, neck sleeve, etc).

still pondering if the uniqlo 'heattech' jawn is legit or just marketing mumbo jumbo. wore heattech tights over heattech long johns and still had icicles for legs. i may be a sucker.

all told it was a lovely trip.

last night i watched this controversially kinky film from 1972, last tango in paris. one of the most sexually frank and also pretty dark narratives from its time, and i would go ahead and say it's dirtier and darker than anything i've seen lately. but in a really interesting and real way. it kind of ruined the young actress maria schneider's career and youth, but it's brilliantly shot and jeanne has some great 70s looks going on.

factoid: apparently there was no turkey at the original thanksgiving back in the day- the native americans brought venison and corn and the pilgrims brought beer and muskets (hey there's a red flag, indians..). there was lots of beer at my thanksgiving, but luckily very few muskets. also very few indians, but whatcha gonna do.

welp thanksgiving is almost upon us, i'll be sneaking off to dc to bake pies with my mom and eat my weight in turkey/everything. some r&r might do me some good, my current sleep cycle is beyond whacked.

oh gosh i dunno guys. what's up lately?

i went and saw melencholia, and it was pretty cool and intense but totally gave me a migraine from all the handheld camera work which has never happened to me in a movie before.

i've spent some time doing annoying but productive things lately- sat down and mended a bunch of dresses and sewed coat buttons back on. then i assembled a bookshelf i've had sitting in its box for three months. maybe i'll get around to doing some laundry next. lol.

i stumbled upon something of a feline fiesta a few blocks away from my apartment at what can only be the house of a cat lady/person. there were like 6 or 7 cats lounging on the steps, in the windows, and hanging on the sidewalk. it was hard not to sneak off with one or two.

also it's november and these will be the last photos where i'm not wearing tights. but it's actually been surprisingly warm the last few days. still crossing my fingers that it stays this way..

i did not manage to get any decent photos of my Halloween escapades, but i had a thoroughly spooky weekend filled with dressing up, dancing, slushy snow, too much candy, a frat party and brunch at honeys.
i managed to wear a new costume every night- a sailor and a beatnik and minnie mouse. wish i had some pictures to show off where i don't look ahem, sloppy, but hey, maybe next year. instead you get these photos from a wonderfully warm november day, and my outfit is still totally drawing inspiration from minnie mouse.

i have so many libra friends with birthdays this week it's ridiculous. last night a bunch of friends went bowling in celebration and well, bowling is not my game. usually i end up sulky and in last place. but last night i surprised myself after a slow start of repeat gutter balls (and a few beers), i was in last place when i rallied in the 10th with a strike and a spare to win the game!
granted, my score was only 83, so i don't think i'll be signing up for any bowling leagues this fall.

it's been a cloudy wet fall so far, but luckily i got a new pair of rain boots just in time. although getting them in white might have been a silly choice, as i've already mucked them up pretty good.

initially, i had salivated pretty hard about over the melissa x vivienne westwood bow boots (originally because of this gal), but could never find them cheap enough, so i went with the tretorn skerrys when i saw they were on sale. i could talk for days about my shopping habits, but i'm boring even myself so i'll leave it at that.

on my way out of new york i thought it would be fun to stop by Laduree, the famous parisian macaron bakery, which just opened its first storefront in new york (the only one in the USA!). i had succumbed to its magic when i was in tokyo back in 2009.
but hello, there was a super long line for the tiny shop that i somehow wasn't expecting. somewhat cranky, i waited it out and of course it was totally worth it for that perfect pistachio macaron (...and a strawberry, lemon, and salted caramel, mmm!).

what a wonderful picnic it was! it was rad to get to meet so many of my lady crushes, and i'm just bummed that i don't live closer to more of them. the above photo is why ashley is the best: when a group of almost naked boys singing swim team boys approached our blankets, she announced it was her birthday and they serenaded happy birthday to her. i could not stop laughing.

so the weekend before last was spent at the loveliest of weddings, where none other than ada of oma vintage got hitched! it all went down in the tiny town of griswald, connecticut, which is beyond charming. i was blown away by how many stars i could see in the night sky.

my camera was acting up and wouldn't focus, plus there were a ton of other photographers going at it, so this is really just a quick peek at my pals in white dresses.. it's tough having such pretty friends.

i think this is the first time my bike has been included on the blog. i've had it for about 4 years now, so it's about time. it's nothing special but that's kind of what i like about it, plus it's nice and small for a shorty like me. i haven't named it or anything, but sometimes i call it my ~steed~. i don't have a car so it's my main form of transportation (i bike to work everyday!), luckily philly is a really easy to bike city, and it's getting even better with brand new bike lanes, although there's some catching up to do with some crazy potholes..

this weekend i went on a little excursion from the city to go swimming in this pretty little creek at fort washington park. splashed around, ate fried chicken, and marveled at all the nature. the water was surprisingly clear and warm- at least surprising for me, the city girl who hears so much bad news about the environment that i assume every stream close to the city will be clogged with trash and run off. the only thing more i could have asked for was a rope swing..

this dress is from the clothing swap back in february and it has the cutest ladybug pattern. i kinda can't breath in it, but it's totally worth it for the cute factor.

these photos are a couple days old, it's currently way to hot for tights or anything flattering actually, as it's sweltering on the east coast and my air conditioner hasn't arrived yet (sunday! cannot come soon enough). i'm currently sitting in a cafe near my house that i expected to have a/c blasting but actually it's just got ceiling fans and i'm kinda pissed but i already paid for this ice tea, and at least that's cold.

taking photos on my street has become something of a joke between me and my 'photographer'..
there really are quite nice areas of philadelphia.. i just don't live near them.
a little local color: south philly hates trees. apparently mostly because of falling leaves and bird droppings that land on people's cars. oh the horror! many neighborhoods cut them down and refuse to let anyone plant new ones. the trunk in these photos belongs to my street's only tree.

this blouse is the only brand new clothing i've bought this year, well besides socks. and it's kind of my new favorite, cause it's similar to that monki one on my wishlist...
